A sketch of a familiar story

If you think the story is familiar, perhaps because you have read similar stories before. Perhaps you have witnessed it happened in real life. Perhaps you even experience it yourself. I can assure you this story has happened before, and perhaps is happening in various versions around the world right now. I will just offer a sketch, because the details aren't important.

It is about a woman and a man she loved. The woman was attractive and intelligent. The man loved her back, at least initially. They were happy. They thought had everything in the world and didn't care much about others, as long as they had their love. Which was very wrong, of course.

The man left her. There were reasons. Perhaps there were other woman. Perhaps the woman was the other woman, and the man was coming to his senses. Perhaps he simply didn't love her anymore. A lot of explanations can be told, but it doesn't matter. He left her.

Then there was this other man, who waited. He witnessed the woman fell in love and broken, and went to comfort her. Only the woman was too much in pain and still too much in love with her former lover who abandon her. So he waited for the sadness to subside. You see, this man loved the woman and didn't mind the wait.

There are sad and happy endings to this story, which again are details and aren't really important to me. When I was aware of this story I said I pitied him, whatever the ending would be. I don't want to be in the shoes of that man who waited.
